The California Cancer Registry and the American Cancer
Society has recently published a new booklet, "California Cancer
Facts and Figures 2006. "For those of you who live in California
obtained with any form of cancer, I urge you to this informative
Brochure.

For this report, I would only be referring to the statistics for the lungs --
Cancer in California. California is a leading provider of tobacco tax
Initiatives. After the cancer trends in California
determinewhat action the rest of the country in order to
Decline in lung cancer rates overall.

Good News! - Basically

Basically, the message is very good. For the period 1988 --
2002 all cases of cancer were in California
by 12%. Cancer mortality by 19%. Thanks
Proposition 99 - California's anti-tobacco initiative
passed in 1988, by tobacco-related cancers declined sharply,
much more than in any other state. Tobacco-relatedCancer
are cancers of the lung, larynx, mouth, pancreas,
Stomach and bladder. However, lung cancer causes more
more deaths than any other cancer.

What about new cases?

Of all Californians alive today, around 15 million will eventually in some form of cancer that is about two in five.
Over the years, is, cancer strikes about three out of
four families. This year alone there are more than 15 new
Cases are diagnosed eachHours every day. For men of all
new cases diagnosed, 13% of them suffer from lung cancer.
For women, the figure is 12%.

Tobacco-Related Cancers

Currently, approximately 85% of lung cancer caused by cigarette
Smoking. However, many other cancers are caused by
Tobacco as well. Overall, one third of all deaths from cancer is
by tobacco. The incidence of lung cancer decreased by
26% in the period were known. Needless to say, for
smokers who have quit smoking, your chances
always lung cancer decreases over time. After 15 years, the
Risk is only slightly higher than for people who
never smoked.

Secondhand Smoke

I think we all now know that passive smoking was
determined to cause cancer in humans. But did you know that
Each year in the U.S., about 3,000 adults die from smoking
Lung cancer as a direct result of secondhand smoke? The
mostrecent major example is Dana Reeve, wife of the
Christopher Reeve. It is believed she may have given them
from secondhand smoke as a result of their years as
Entertainer in music clubs.

Passive smoking is particularly harmful for children. The
good news is that in 2004 more than 80% of California
Households with children younger than 5 completely stopped
Smoking in the apartment.

Alarming trends in smoking

Because lung cancer rates in Californiadecreased
clearly it would be logical to assume that smoking
Prices have fallen too, right? And indeed they have,
in most adults and adolescents. In 2004, 15% of California
Adults still smoke.

The alarming trend is the increasing number of 18-24 year old smokers.
They are the fastest growing rate of smokers in California and
the tobacco industry targeted them as "smoking
the future. "The smoking rate for 18-24 year olds was18%
2004th

What can be done?

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in California. All
Cancers may be due to tobacco and heavy use of alcohol causes
completely prevented. In 2006, the 18,000 Californians will
because of tobacco use.

An early diagnosis can save lives by identifying cancers when it
in the curable stage. The five-year survival rate for most
Cancer is very good if caught early. Unfortunately, the
Statistics for Lung CancerCancer are not as good, mainly because it
is difficult to diagnose early enough.

The California anti-tobacco initiative has contributed to a put --
To assess depression in lung cancer. Californians need to remain,
well-informed and. More tobacco tax laws are based on the
Way.
