Alarming statistics for mesothelioma to know you

- Mesothelioma is not a very common disease with about 2000-3000 new cases seen in the U.S. each year.

Once there was a gradual increase in the number of newly diagnosed mesothelioma victims in the United States from the 1970s to the 1990s, after which the number was relatively constant. After the year 2000 and beyond, the numbers are likely to decrease.

- Mesothelioma is more common in men. It is four times more common in men than inWomen.

-The number of new cases of mesothelioma is still in European countries.

- Mesothelioma generally affects people older than 55 years, it is very rare, mesothelioma in people under 55 years and its incidence increases with age, approximately 90% of people diagnosed with mesothelioma find are older than 65 years.

-This cancer is more common in whites and Hispanics than African-Americans and AsiansAmericans.

-The average life of the victims of this deadly cancer is between four to eighteen months. About nine to ten percent of mesothelioma victims live up to five years after diagnosis. The lifetime of the individual cases are dependent upon many factors, including the stage and the degree of spread of the tumor at diagnosis, age of the victim at the time of diagnosis, overall health, and some other factors.

-However, it is important to note that most of these survival data werebe collected from patients diagnosed and treated several years ago, it is very likely that these figures are now living longer with more victims after the diagnosis may have improved.

-Finally, it is important to note that these figures are only a guide and they do not determine your own starting of the disease. How many other individual factors, and finally to identify times in your own actual outcome, they should discuss with your oncologist know how these figures are best apply to you.
